Welcome to 2018! If you’re wondering what the new makeup trends are, let’s hope you’re not sick of glitter and sparkle yet! In 2017 we saw great makeup trends like black winged eyeliner and sparkling eye shadows. Now in 2018, some of the same trends will be taken to a whole new level.
If you like gold tones, the colors of the rainbow, and jet black eyeliner, then get ready because you will love all of these exciting new trends! You may need to make some simple changes to get these new looks. Don’t get rid of what you have just yet! Let’s have some fun and add some new items to our collections! Maybe some sparkling lip gloss, some new un-ordinary colored eyeshadow and learn how to use ultra-bright highlighter.
Much of the focus was on the eyes by enhancing them with bright, bold eye-shadow with clumped mascara and somerhinestones or sequins glued around them. And when not focusing on the eyes, it was all about the lips, and yes, red is still alive. I picked out a few of my favorites that I’m excited to try!
Curious? Let’s take a look:
EYES:
Wing It
Winged eyeliner, also called the cat-flick, will be seen everywhere. This is no surprise being that winged eyeliner will always be around, but this year it will be taken to a more dramatic and graphic level. Not only will we be seeing a lot of the popular jet black liner, we will be seeing a lot of colors used creating a dynamic look. Get creative by lining both the top and the bottom of your eye and try a bright bold color!
Lash Parade
This year retro, clumpy lashes have made a comeback very similar to Twiggy’s famous lashes in the 1960’s. You can get that clumped-on look by applying layers of mascara on both your upper and lower lashes. This creates a messy, natural, stuck together, doll look which doesn’t require much more makeup. The eyes are making quite a statement on their own. Or by applying fake individual lashes to plump up your bottom lashes will boast a more elegant, sophisticated look. But the most creative and easiest way I’ve seen in order to get this look is using an ordinary black eye pencil drawing three vertical lines to the lower lid to resemble false lashes. Not sure I’ll be trying that one but, hands down, this gets an award for creativity!
In Living Color
Don’t let color hold you back! Bold and bright colors are trending for spring 2018. Many everyday women are intimidated about wearing these bright shades which is why we continue to wear our brown, taupe or grey shadows day after day. But really anyone can pull this off! Bold blue, blazing yellow, fierce orange are all acceptable colors to use. Don’t be surprised if you see full rainbow lids either. No color is off limits! Use lip balm or a dewy balm over your eyeshadow to give it a glossy look. Yes! Lip gloss on the eyes, I love it! And not to mention just how fun this is!
Angel Eyes
Halo eye, also known as “spotlight eyes” will be a big trend this year. It’s all about strategically making your eyes looking larger and more luminous! To get this look, pick a color you love and swipe it across the upper and lower eyelid. Then, pick contrasting color and apply it from the inner to outer corners to create the look of a halo. Or try using one color on the upper lid and instead of eyeliner, line the bottom with the same color eye shadow for an easy yet vibrant look.
Crystal Clear
Crystals worn along with makeup on the face was seen on all of the runways this year. These exquisite jewels aren’t just pretty to look at, they can be easily created by yourself. Crystals can be worn to enhance your makeup or by themselves to create that dazzling look without much effort. Stick on crystals are available in stores or they can be glued to the face or eyelids with a little bit of lash glue. I love the fact that instead of coming home and scrubbing off a ton of eye makeup, all you need to do is pull them off!
FACE:
Gold Diggers
At the end of 2017, gold was starting to show up. But now gold will be the color trending in 2018, from highlighters to lipsticks to eye shadows. Don’t ditch your rose and pink tones just yet, but gold is taking over giving us a perfect all over radiance! Look for a highlighter in a yellow-gold metallic to get that healthy golden glow. Many palates in the stores now include gold, available to wear on eyes, lips and cheeks. Don’t be afraid to emerge yourself in gold this year as we enter 2018.
Glow Getter
Ultra-bright highlights are here to take your skin to another level. I personally love it and use it every day in different capacities. You can use it for an everyday look giving your skin a natural looking glow. Or blend a few different tones for a more dramatic evening look. Either way, we all love a sun-kissed glow! If you know how to properly use highlighter, you have a special gift, as it’s certainly not easy. There are many tutorials on YouTube to help you achieve this must-have look. With so many colors, it’s confusing to pick out what’s right for you.So it’s definitely a must to learn more about what colors work with your skin tone. Highlighters will show your skin to be more plump and radiant giving off a candlelit glow.
LIPS:
Gloss Boss
Lip gloss was a makeup trend in the 1990’s. It’s back this year but now they are a lot less sticky, they last longer, and some even add instant volume. The newer “plumping” versions contain natural ingredients you can find at home, cinnamon and menthol. The instant plump occurs because the ingredients irritate and tickle your lips causing your lips to look pouty! Clear gloss with sparkle adds instant shimmer or go bold by using a metallic shade. Lip gloss can give you a very natural look when worn with minimal makeup or it can amp up your evening look with trending colors.
Hot Tamale
Again and again red lips are hot! Red lipstick or gloss is a must have. It’s a classic for sure! Worn alone with little makeup for a more natural daytime look, try a matte color. For a fiercer nighttime look, try a glossier red paired with one of the trendier eyeshadows and liners. Many women think they can’t pull off red lipstick, but with the right color based on your skin tone and the right amount of makeup anyone can show off this timeless color.
There you have it, a few of my favorites! So whatever you choose, you sure will make a statement!Let’s not be afraid to try new things this year. We don’t have to make any drastic changes, start small and embrace who you are. We should all try to switch things up to keep ourselves looking fresh and alive. Step out of your comfort zone by trying out these trends and show yourself off the world!
