Greetings, I hope that all of you are having a great summer or are about to, as August is the biggest vacation month of the summer. Before I start into my biggest annoyance as a storeowner or a friend to someone shopping with me I want to tell you that the biggest weeks of the YEAR for FASHION are almost here with the Fashion Weeks starting around the globe. This is such an exciting time as we see what will be happening in fashion this year. Stay tuned as my TEAM and I will be bringing you the fashions of the year and how to wear, so no worries. Now, I am getting right to the point of this article. My biggest pet peeve in fashion and as a boutique owner is when people tell me, after they find something they really love, well” I’m going to wait until I lose 10 lbs before I buy any new clothes.
I am shaking my head, it is one thing if it is a monetary situation and the person or friend cannot afford the fashion piece, but if it is because they are waiting to lose weight – it might NEVER happen! Here’s why!!!
First off, people that claim to need to lose 10 pounds first, probably really need to lose more like 20 plus pounds! I have a master’s degree in Exercise Science and have worked most of my life in fitness and weight loss! Needless to say, this is coming to you from my experience! I know you all have friends who do it or do it yourselves! Generally, this happens for 2 reasons,
-
This person has no interest in buying clothing even if they have the money, it is not important to them.
-
Sadly, this person probably has a “not so great image of self” and will never understand this! These individuals wear clothing because they have to, they don’t understand C H O I C E , like some of us may! AAAAAGGGHHHHHHHH
NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE THE POWER OF A GREAT OUTFIT ON A REALLY BAD DAY!!!!!
This statement, my friends, is the main reason that I am a certified #fashionaddict !
Now this is the part where I need you all to write in and provide the debate and commentary as to your feelings on this subject, here are mine! Remember, this is just my opinion, not to be taken toooo seriously and please correct me if I am in error! It probably won’t change my opinion, JUST SAYING! Even as I make light of this topic, it poses some very serious issues that people often ignore of don’t realize, literally how important dressing on trend or “nice and or appropriate” can be for your career, work promotions, social events, friendships and on and on! Basically it starts with this concept: YOU ONLY GET ONE (1) FIRST IMPRESSION — EVER!
Before you even speak, your clothing choice (think about that) has spoken for you and what is it saying about you?????????
The last statement, I believe, especially in the workplace,( depending on your profession) will have PROFOUND effects on your success! This is my ever so humble opinion!
Here is my thinking, “hey we all have to wear clothing, so why not make it kick-butt clothing!!!!” Nice clothing does not NOT NOT have to be expensive or uncomfortable. If you are unsure of how to dress, there are millions of great stylist that will assist you for free and now you can order clothing through companies that send you outfits, no matter your size, monthly and if you like it keep it, if not ditch it! Imagine you get to wear the clothing and you find you don’t really love it or it did not get the response you wanted, you can ditch it for no charge. In this day and age you can dress nice at any any any price. Do NOT make that an excuse…… At the end of this article I will give you some names of companies that cater to the ‘INSPIRATIONALLY CHALLENGED “ shopper!!!!! It is sooooooo important on numerous levels to show you care about how you are perceived and how you care about yourself. Really it is ok to at least LIKE oneself!
Clothing , and the amazing designers who make our lives worth livin’, can and does have a tremendous effect on our psyche! We all have to wear it so I do not understand why certain people won’t even purchase needed clothing for years. We all know that person who still dresses with the actual clothing from the 80’s not even INSPIRED BY THE 80’s! I mean this clothing is the REAL DEAL – sorry cousin ——-, I love you dearly, but you are one of them. Come on, put a little effort into the game, and it will take you a long way and TRUST ME, I am old and have experienced it! When I am off my game and the extra pounds are plaguing my ass, I do go buy new clothing so I feel better, better than trying stuff my ass in something ill- fitting!
SERIOUSLY – because there is one less thing to worry about at the moment, at least I know I look good even if I don’t feel good!
I am not going to carry on about the importance clothing makes in our lives, because I am opening it up for all of you to discuss and/or debate. I will share one last thought and this is truly my MANTRA
“FASHION IS A WAY TO CHANGE WHO WE ARE WITHOUT CHANGING OUR IDENTITY!”
Having said that, I’m off to fetch the CROWN du jour because TODAY — I want to play the QUEEN OF MY WORLD! Have a great one and join me/us for the next blog topic — information on how to lose those 10 extra pounds, quick and simple – done deal!
