People often ask me how I buy clothes that fit so well or they will comment on the fact that my clothing always fits well! Let me tell you – it is not as easy as it appears! All of us have “problem areas” on our bodies that make shopping for clothing difficult or downright Hellish at times! One thing I will tell you off the hop is that if you need a dress or special occasion gear, start shopping for these items EARLY! The reason being is that if you have to have it altered, you will have the time to do so! The other reason for shopping early for special pieces is so that you will be able to find the right sizes. It is always easier to buy bigger and have it altered. Not much you can do with clothing that is too small. So today I am going to share a couple of tips that I’ve learned in the past years that hopefully will be helpful when you too are shopping for clothing that truly fits! When I shop, I shop first for the problem area, which for me happens to be my larger chest. This causes a lot of sizing issues especially when buying dresses! You can just imagine how that one works. NOT WELL! I go shopping looking for dresses that will first fit my chest and look nice which excludes 85% of what I truly would like to buy, but I will tell you one way around that here shortly.
Now for the second tip on buying the proper fit! Do NOT worry about the size you are buying. People just cannot get past this. I have people all the time in my boutiques tell me that they will not purchase that size because they are a size 4 and they will not buy the size 8 – even if it fits perfectly and looks amazing – THEIR LOSS! If you can get past the fact that in most clothing you wear a certain size, but in another item of clothing you may in fact need 2 sizes larger, you will be far more successful and happy than refusing to acknowledge that all clothing is not made by the same scaling anymore! Nowadays you can’t even really go by the size you thought you once were because there is so much diversity in the way the clothing is produced. Largely because it is produced internationally and there is no standard by which sizing exists! IF YOU ORDER ONLINE YOU MUST USE A SIZING CHART PROVIDED and measure your parts accordingly or you will be playing MAIL TAG!
Lastly, there are two things that are important, many things are important with finding the proper fit, but these several things I’ve mentioned, I feel are most important. If you have any great tips for us, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE THEM IN THE COMMENT SECTION AT THE END OF THIS BLOG, A THREAD WILL APPEAR ONCE SEVERAL COMMENTS ARE ENTERED!!
Do Not be afraid to ask for help when searching the proper sizes, especially when buying bras! Always, ALWAYS have the number of a good tailor on hand. I probably alter 75% of my clothing, mostly pant lengths, but I have used tailors forever and it is so well worth the money because it allows me to buy clothes that normally would not fit! I hope this short blog was helpful, especially this time of year! Feel free to contact me and leave us your comments!
Thanks for the read, have a wonderful weekend and look forward to having you with us next Tuesday for a new blog. If you have any certain topics you wish to talk about – give me a shout out I would love the feedback!
Thanks Again,
