Appropriate skirt lengths by age are a big controversy nowadays. Should there be a rule for women as they age? Or should they feel free to wear the skirts they love, in the length they choose? Is there an age to choose between appropriate versus a great looking mini with those high over the knee boots? Let’s explore… Today, more and more women are jumping on the “anti-aging” bandwagon. They’re taking care of their minds, bodies, and souls with skin care services, exercise and meditation. Women are aging gracefully and at times looking a decade younger than they are. Many are in the best shape of their lives allowing them to continue keeping up with the trends and styles they love…. So what’s the problem? There has always been a loosely defined “rule of thumb” to skirt lengths by age. Short mini and micro-mini skirts were appropriate in our 20’s and early 30’s. Late 30’s and early 40’s we began experimenting with above knee, below the knee and at times the maxi. With the approach of middleage, below the knee, midi and ballerina were thought to be the norm. Why do we have to follow this antiquated rule? We look and feel amazing and many of us agree we look better now than we ever did in our 20’s and 30’s!
I’d like to showcase our very own Jackie Beard Robinson. She’s well- known as a fashion icon and stylist. She’s classy, trend savvy and confident and full of love, life and FUN! Depending on Jackie’s mood and no matter what the occasion or setting, she wears what shows off her comfort level and style. The styles she creates shows off her personality and love for fashion. Jackie’s age doesn’t define her “outfit of the day”.She keeps herself up to date by pairing the classics with the latest trends while keeping her looks timeless and sophisticated. As Jackie says:
Jackie took this long, full maxi length skirt from classic to fab. She knows how to keep this look up to date by pairing it with a tailored top half. With a chic cropped blazer and a classic crisp white tailored shirt, Jackie is not drowning in fabric, causing a bulky and slouchy look.
Jackie was able to recreate this simple below the knee skirt to an up to the minute style. With the addition of sequined booties and ruffle sleeve sweater, Jackie created a style that’s timeless and perfect at any age!
A short flowy printed mini skirt paired with high boots keeps Jackie’s legs looking unexposed while still looking sexy and stylish. Depending on whether you want to show your legs or not, shoes can make all the difference here.
Here she is showing off her great legs wearing a short, fun, denim mini skirt and some really sexy strappy heels! Again, depending on your confidence and level of comfort, this simple skirt can also be worn with boots, still keeping it ageless, lively and swanky! So as you can see, we shouldn’t feel there’s a “rule” about skirt lengths at a certain age. As long as we remain honest with ourselves and confident with the shape we are, flaunt what you want by being realistic. Let the setting, the occasion, and the company you’re with guide you. Keep up with the latest trends and pair them with classics you may already have in your closet! Age is only a number! Positive attitudes and positive minds are what keeps us feeling good about ourselves at any age. You control how you look and you feel, and don’t ever let your age define you! We love this! –
Have a fabulous day!
