Greetings Everyone! Before I finish my story from the post on Instagram regarding ‘the swing-set in the bay’, I’d like to say a couple of things about the Bahamas, that you may or may not find interesting. I promise to keep it short!
Most of you know that I travel by boat several times a year and my very favorite trip is my one to the Bahamas, more specifically to Eleuthera and south through the Exumas. The Bahamas boast over 700-beautiful islands and I can tell you firsthand this is true, as I do believe I have seen them all! Most are uninhabited by humans, but…none-the-less, they are all magic…
I did see Johnny Depp’s island and another owned by a Prince from Saudi Arabia. The Prince paid a cool $60-million for his and I am not quite sure what Depp’s ended up costing him. However, the upkeep of these islands is where the real cost comes into play. I’d love to throw a party on one of their islands, for sure! They’re awfully nice.
I do recommend if you are considering the Bahamas as a destination place, that you do part of your stay by watercraft if at all possible. The scenery is simply breathtaking. If the water is not in the cards, the locals are always sure to show you a good time, so if you are looking for some
island-time, locate a guide and take in a grand tour of all of the local fun places that are centrally located and can be seen in one day. This is a great day at any age!
Also, for some of you, stating the obvious, once you are here and on island-time, and it’s hot, you will probably be inclined to wear swimsuits more than not. And as you head to eat somewhere, you’ll gravitate toward cooler clothing for dinner etc. It’s normal, needless to say, that you won’t find me ‘dressed to the nines’ in my finest #ootd or #oote on this particular trip. I do promise to post beautiful island pics, as those are the real sites to take in. This is a fashion free zone, we’re all human!
One of the funniest parts of my trip (you can follow along on my Instagram account too @jackiebeardrobinson) is one of those moments I am going to attempt to explain and hope you didn’t have to be there to get the gist…
My husband does the digger in the knee-deep water, saves the camera, but not his hearing aides, bummer! We make it to the ‘swing by the sea’. As we are getting settled, a dog begins to paddle out with his owner, who is doing handstands, while on her way to us. She flips right up only to say,”I’ve been following you to get a picture of you both.” After a brief walk on her hands mind you…I just couldn’t contain myself. Hilarity ensued (think church giggles) as it just all happened so unexpectedly and if she had only known the great lengths my husband had gone to, to save our camera for this very moment. Priceless! I still laugh typing this blog.
If you could have seen a video of Rick, my husband, and I getting out to those swings, what a hard time we were having and him falling in… simply to save the camera, with his shoes and hearing aides floating at the surface; A Chevy Chase classic to say the very least. All he could do is laugh as he held the camera above his head as it went underwater. I wish I could have gotten the lady’s contact information that tried to capture the moment. The photo she took got more likes than anything I have ever posted. Because that’s funny sh–!
So, that’s my story and I am sticking to it! I hope you enjoyed your read and find humor in everything, it’s healthy! I plan on sharing more articles specific to the islands I visited. If you have any questions you can reach me via my blog at jackiebeardrobinson.org. Thinking of you my friends and wishing you all a great week!
