Introduction To Laura:
Hello! My name is Laura Wright and I am super excited (and honored) to be a guest blogger for the iconic Jackie Beard Robinson!! A little about me: I live in New Jersey, yes, Jersey girl at heart. I have an amazing husband, two boys, (16 and 14) who all keep me busy! I worked for almost 12 years in the fashion industry. For about 10 years, I worked in NYC, in sales, at a well-known brand as a Senior Account Executive. I learned so much working with buyers and top retail executives. I then moved to San Francisco for a change and was lucky enough to work as a Field Merchandising Coordinator for Macy’s, representing the same brand I worked for in NYC! I then got married to a fellow Jersey boy and we decided to move back to New Jersey. And so there I was, back in that showroom again in NYC, working as an Account Executive with a company I was so dedicated to (see, never burn a bridge!). I had my boys in 2001 and then 2003 (19 months apart, ugh!) I decided to stay home and be a mom. I felt the need to go back to school while they were younger because I needed to keep my mind busy. So then, now as a single mom, I decided to go to Nursing School. I always had an interest but didn’t think I had the smarts. In 2008, after 4 years of studying, I became a nurse! I was so proud of myself! There’s no greater feeling than your two little boys cheering you on as you receive your degree! I have now been a nurse for the last 10 years (really showing my age). I love being a nurse because there is always something new to learn every day. And of course, I love caring for patients and helping people feel their best! I continue my love for fashion today by reading and learning as much as I can. I also have an interest in health and wellness and how we can feel great as we age. My next goal is to become RN certified in using the new medical services and treatment procedures used in Aesthetics to help us appear younger and healthier! There are so many endless opportunities and we are never too old to keep learning!
Thinking about ditching your skinny jeans? NOT SO FAST…they’re here to stay! They may not be considered a hot trend any longer, but today are considered a classic, or a staple. Slim cut jeans have been up for debate for a while, but like the little black dress that gets dressed up or down, they’ve now become timeless. Also referred to as “stovepipes” or “drainpipes”, these babies have been around since the 17th century. It was not until the mid-2000’s, skinnies made a huge comeback and were all the buzz. First as an on-line item only, but then they finally made it into boutiques and large retail stores making their big debut as a fashion trend.
But still, some women felt they were unflattering. These tight fitting jeans tended to be tight in all the wrong places, causing attention to our hips and thighs. For those of us sporting muscular calves, you couldn’t even get them on, or they were so tight you looked like you were playing twister trying to get then off! Camel toes and moose knuckles were popping up everywhere giving these skinny jeans a bad name.
But they beat their bad rap over time as determined fashion designers found ways to freshen them up with more up to date styles, cuts, and many options to mix them up. From running errands with the kids to a casual lunch with your besties to a sophisticated night out, the smallest detail can go a long way.
Runways this year were dominated by the hottest trends in jeans – high wasted, flare bottoms and ruffle bottoms (I’m so not ready for that), but our beloved friend still made the cut! With a little fray, a few slits and cuts, and some “bling and blang”, skinny jeans surprised us with a fresh new elegance and sophistication.
Let’s take a look!
DATE NIGHT
A sweater or a sheer blouse, showing some skin, with black skinnies, and high heeled strappy sandals, may end your night earlier than expected (wink, wink). Cold shoulder, bare shoulder and cutouts are always super sexy with a pair of skinny jeans!

TRENDY
This right here is my favorite! Seriously, you are getting every hot trend right now in this casual chic look! These ripped up beauties paired with a velvet blazer to dress it up (I love the color), street style graphic tees are all the rage, paired with red drop earrings and sock booties makes this look RED HOT (trending now… yes, red!)
SOPHISTICATED
Want to look like you just walked off the runway? Take a formal dress or a duster and layer it over your jeans – paired with an edgy boot or heel- will give these sandpipes an unexpected glamourous look from day to night. Change to black skinnies for a hot nighttime surprise!
CASUAL
Fringe and fray will be everywhere! Dressing them up is the key to keep these skinnies looking fresh. Dress these up with a crisp white blouse, maybe even some pearls and a pair of your favorite shoes… don’t forget your favorite mini bag to complete the look!
DAY TO NIGHT
Totally cool and casual with sneakers and a long layered tee with your favorite comfy or chunky sweater is what gets me through any day. Skinny jeans are best paired with sneakers that are lightweight and low topped. Perfect for running around with the kids, shopping, and even a casual lunch with the girls. Easily take this look from day to night by changing into your favorite heels or boots and a short leather jacket.
BOOTS AND BOOTIES
Tall, wider boots with a flat heel can make your legs look longer and thinner. Also shown below, an over the knee boot, can do the same. Booties are fabulous too with these babies. You can dress up any look with booties that are embellished, have bling, sparkle or I LOVE the leopard print booties. Boots can bring your look to life paired with a simple sweater or blouse.
EDGY
Red is on fire! These frayed drainpipes paired with red hot booties and an animal print top coat definitely boasts some high-end glamour. Don’t forget your cross-body mini to complete this look! Remember.. RED will be everywhere.
So there you have it, skinny jeans can be so versatile. By wearing them for casual Fridays, running errands, date nights, or a night out with the girls! So just like our little black dress, these rock star jeans will be a staple in our closets as long as we keep our looks fresh and up to date.
I hope this blog was helpful. Would love to hear how you keep your skinnies fresh and up to date! As always, feel free to contact us with any feedback or comments!
Happy Holidays!
